New Delhi: In the face of a growing scandal and an ongoing inquiry into the paper being leaked a day before the exam, the government has decided NEET exam Should Not Be Cancelled the medical entrance examination, NEET. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan defended his position by pointing out that the leak only impacted a small number of students, which was in contrasting contrast to past events in 2004 and 2015 where larger leaks resulted in the cancelation of exams. He claimed that thousands of students who properly passed the exam would be impacted if it were cancelled.

The National Testing Agency revealed that they had granted grace marks to a few students owing to an incorrect question and applicants receiving the question paper late, following protests after 67 individuals achieved a perfect 720 on the NEET-UG exam.
The NTA administered NEET-UG 2024, the entrance exam for undergraduates medical degrees, which registered over 24 lakh students on May 5. On June 4, the findings were made public earlier than expected. But allegations of an exam papers leak and the distribution of grace marks to over 1,500 students caused controversy. This resulted in massive protests and legal actions, including cases brought before several courts, most notably the Supreme Court, which has harshly criticized the NTA’s handling of the situation.
Since only a few candidates from Bihar were benefited by the incident, which is thought to be localized, the center has declined to cancel the exam. In Bihar, an accused student and three others have been taken into custody and are undergoing interrogation.
Mr. Pradhan described the leak of the UGC-NET exam question paper as a “organizational failure” of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and stated that there was no need to cancel the exam, but the government will form a high-level panel to investigate the agency’s operations.
“At a press conference in New Delhi, Mr. Pradhan stated that it is unfair to deny the opportunity to those who have genuinely cleared the exam because of a few isolated cases of cheating.”
We maintain continuous communication with the Bihar Police. We have asked them to provide a report. We shall choose the next line of action after we obtain it. I accept full responsibility, and the system’s differences will be fixed. Let us have trust in our systems, and the government will not put up with any problems or misconduct,” the minister said.
Along with warning the opposition parties not to elevate the matter, he also threatened to take strong measures against those proven guilty, including “top” NTA staff.
The Ministry of Education has responded to the matter more quickly than expected, confirming that the concerns raised by the public about grace marks have already been properly resolved.
In relation to the leak of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) question paper, four people have been taken into custody in Bihar. Three candidates, Anurag Yadav, Nitish Kumar, and Amit Anand, as well as Sikandar Yadavendu, an intern engineer with the Danapur Municipal Council, are among those detained. The suspects’ admissions that they had received and memorized the leaked question paper preceded the arrests, raising doubts about the validity of the NEET-UG 2024 exam procedure.
Amit Anand’s admission further disclosed that the evidence against him had been boosted by the discovery of burned parts of the question paper and answer sheet at his home. He also acknowledged that he had previously participated in similar leaks, which revealed the depth of the corruption in the testing system.
