During the convocation event at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology in Prayagraj, where he was the chief guest, Narayana Murthy stated that population management has been mostly ignored since the Emergency time frame, a lapse which currently jeopardizes the country’s future.

“There are major challenges for India in terms of population, availability of land per person, and health facilities,” said Murthy. Declaring, “We Indians haven’t given enough consideration to population control before the Emergency period,” he emphasized the sharp disparities between India and nations such the US, Brazil, and China. There’s an opportunity that this will make our nation unsustainable. On the other hand, the availability of land per person is significantly higher in nations such the US, Brazil, & China.”

Narayana Murthy had previously voiced doubts about India’s ability to challenge China as the world’s leading manufacturing powerhouse. He issued a warning against overusing phrases like “hub” and “global leader” at the “ELCIA Tech Summit 2024,” pointing out that “China has already become the factory of the world.” Approximately 90% of the products seen in foreign home depots and supermarkets are made in China. Their GDP is six times that of India. We are being very bold when we predict that India would become the center of manufacturing.

Narayana Murthy stressed that although India’s IT business is largely dependent on exports, the country’s the manufacturing industry is largely reliant on contributions from inside and government assistance. He made the point that encouraging growth in manufacturing requires reforms in public management, such as lowering the barrier between the public and private sectors.

“In general, locally produced goods contributes more to manufacturing, and government support is crucial to the industry’s success. Regretfully, in a nation like India, public governance still has room for improvement in terms of quickness of response, accountability, transparency, speed, and excellence,” he stated.

In his reflections on his own path, Murthy emphasized how the chances we have today were made possible by the sacrifices made by the generation before us, including those of his parents, siblings, and teachers. “Many sacrifices from one generation must be made in order to better the life of the next. My presence here as the main guest is evidence that my parents, siblings, and instructors made substantial sacrifices for my advancement, he remarked.
